We all know that one person who is so bubbly and outgoing. They’re friends with basically everyone. They seem so confident in their own skin. Perhaps we see them and wish that we had that confidence. But is that really confidence?
Many people who seem so happy and outgoing lack confidence. It’s one thing to confidently approach someone; it’s a completely different thing to feel confident within ourselves. Just because someone boldly puts themselves out there doesn’t mean they’re confident. It may simply be a technique to conceal their lack of confidence. Behind closed doors, they may feel like they aren’t good enough.
But how do we become confident within ourselves?
It’s knowing that God made us. And He wholly accepts us on the basis of His Son, Jesus.
It’s knowing that we’re not perfect, but recognizing that in Christ, we’re enough. It’s an inward stability knowing that our greatest need has been met and accepted by God through the cross. It is a confidence that may not show outwardly to everyone, but it doesn’t feel the need to.
Without this confidence, we can become unstable and believe all the lies that come our way. We can feel that we constantly have to live up to a standard. Apart from the promise God offers us in Christ, there’s no end to the merry-go-round of lies and instability!
So, let’s have a think about this. Do we feel that we’re enough because God said the work of Jesus is enough?
Or do we feel we have to earn approval from people and from God?
For the Lord will be your confidence,
And will keep your foot from being caught. Proverbs 3:26
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10
