Sometimes we get swept up in our own worlds. One day of not talking to God can develop into a week, and continue until it feels difficult to return to our former relationship with God. Sometimes we can feel that God’s too far away because of the distance that we’ve created, which can make it even harder to return to the days when we could confide to God about everything and anything.
Sure, the solution may sound basic, but it can happen to us all! It doesn’t matter how many times we can read that God loves us, forgives us, or accepts us; there’s always a chance that a seed of doubt will take root.
The enemy is very good at casting doubt into our minds. What better way for Satan to mess with someone than with their relationship with God? It’s a threat to him.
The truth is, nothing will change unless we take steps toward change. God never walks away from us. In fact , even if we walk away from Him, He’ll patiently wait for us in love. That’s the kind of gentle, loving God He is. All we need to be is completely open and honest to God.
Is there a secret sin that’s holding us back from an honest relationship with God? If we think that failing to bring a problem to God will prevent Him from knowing about it, then we are sadly mistaken. There’s no secrets with God. It sounds scary, right? But the thing is, God doesn’t judge us for it. Instead, He yearns to help us!
Is it a feeling of inadequacy that’s separating us from Him? Just remember that Jesus didn’t exclude anyone from His offer of forgiveness. There was not one soul’s sin that Jesus didn’t feel the burden of that day. He paid for it. But it’s so easy to believe that God feels differently about me. Sometimes we can feel that He can’t have possibly meant me when He offered forgiveness. No, I’m pretty sure Jesus would have said if there was one person excluded from His offer of forgiveness who would be born two thousand years into the future.
In short, God certainly isn’t standing in the way of a healthy relationship with Him. If we’re feeling distant from God, why overthink it? Pray to Him then and there. Pray to Him about how we’re feeling. Invite Him to be a part of our lives. We can never do this too much!
Invite Him to take part in every part of our lives — from prayer, to deciding how we’ll spend our day.
And all the doubts? We have the authority over Satan through Christ. Claim God’s power and ask Him to take the doubts and lies away. Seriously, there’s nothing quite like an honest relationship with God.
